I am James Swallow and I have been going to Christ church for about 7 years with my wife and as are family has expanded so our two daughters now go.
I read a book called “Nevertheless” by John Kirkby about 1 ½ years ago and since have wanted to be involved with Christians Against Poverty (CAP).
So when the opportunity came along for me to do some sponsored events for them I jumped at the chance – wanting to do everything in one year, and then realising with help from friends and family that was going to be impossible.
However I have decided to register to do one sponsored walk this year – with hopefully many more events to come over the next few years, watch this space !!
On the 10th July I will be taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, 26 miles over the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales.
Firstly I would like to ask for prayers for CAP and the work they do and for myself as I take on this challenge.
Below is an extract from CAP,s website
www.capuk.org (for more information about CAP click this link to go to their site)
Christians Against Poverty is a national debt counselling charity working through a network of centres based in local churches. CAP offers hope and a solution to anyone in debt through its unique, in-depth service.
CAP aims to show God’s love in action by providing sustainable poverty relief through debt counselling, advice and practical help. CAP’s unique ‘hands on’ approach empowers people to help themselves out of poverty and be released from the fear, oppression and worry generated by overwhelming debts. We are providing sustainable poverty relief as our service teaches clients vital budgeting skills that will last a lifetime.
The charity operates through a growing network of UK centres, all opened in partnership with a local church. CAP began in 1996 when John Kirkby, armed with a £10 donation, started to help people in his local community who were trapped in debt.
The charity is now a fast-paced, growing organisation whose vision is to answer the national problem of debt in the UK by having at least one CAP centre operating in every major town and city by the year 2021.

Secondly. What I am going to take on to raise money for this charity.
Whether you call it the 3 peaks of Yorkshire or the North Yorks 3 Peaks, The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge Walk from Horton in Ribblesdale
Walk ny101 The Yorkshire Three Peaks) - comprising Pen-y-ghent 694m (2277ft), Whernside 736m (2415ft) and Ingleborough 723m (2372ft) is one of the oldest established walks in the UK.
Despite its popularity however, The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge Walk remains 'unofficial'. It is not marked on Ordnance Survey maps for the area and it is not marked on the ground (except for one dilapidated sign guiding you through the out-buildings of Nether Farm).
By tradition the grueling 37.5km (23.5 miles) must be completed within 12 hours though the actual time taken will vary depending on the stamina of the individual and the prevailing weather conditions. The time you take will also depend on the quality of your
Yorkshire Three Peaks Route Guide and how often you get lost!
(Incidentally, our algorithm for producing walk timings suggests this is in fact an 13.5 hour walk - so in any event you will need to step on it).
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge Walk is a rugged, high mountain walk over a variety of terrains and should not be underestimated.
Whilst the walking is generally pretty good it is very long for a single day's hike. It also includes three big climbs totaling 1586m (5202ft) of ascent with the last climb up onto Ingleborough - when the legs are tired and the spirit is weak - being particularly steep.
As with all mountainous areas, the weather can change frequently and very quickly. Swirling mist can descend with little warning and heavy rain can turn hard ground into stamina sapping bog.
Everyone without exception attempting The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge Walk should be fully prepared, fully equipped, carry suitable maps for the area and a fully detailed, up-to-date
Yorkshire Three Peaks Route Guide.
The map you will need is Ordnance Survey 1:25000 series Explorer Map OL2 Yorkshire Dales - Southern & Western Area.
Important: The route of the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge Walk is not marked on the Ordnance Survey map, and it is not marked on the ground either,
